AU chiefs congratulates, commiserates with Zimbabwe people
SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (Reuters) - The head of the African Union congratulated the Zimbawean people on Monday for their "success" in recently concluded controversial presidential elections, but also commiserated with them for their suffering.
"I'd like to congratulate the people of Zimbabwe for their success, but I'd also like to commiserate with them for their suffering," Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, the chairman of the African Union, told an AU summit in Egypt.
"I'd like to ask the international community to work with the SADC (Southern African Development Community) region to find a solution to this problem."
