Gleevec reduces stomach cancer recurrence -study
WASHINGTON, April 12 (Reuters) - Novartis' (NOVN.VX) cancer drug Gleevec reduces by 70 percent the risk that a kind of stomach cancer called gastrointestinal stromal tumor will come back after surgery, U.S. government researchers said on Thursday.
The National Institutes of Health team found that 97 per cent of patients in the study who took one year of Gleevec, known generically as imatinib, did not have a recurrence of their cancer compared to 83 percent of patients who received one year of placebo.
