No GSE announcement on Wednesday: U.S. Treasury

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury on Wednesday shot down financial market rumors that an announcement regarding mortgage finance companies Fannie Mae (FNM.N) and Freddie Mac (FRE.N) was imminent.

A Treasury spokeswoman, asked about the rumors, said there would be "no announcement today."

The S&P financial stocks had traded toward their session high around mid-day, with Fannie Mae (FNM.N) and Freddie Mac (FRE.N) showing the biggest gains.
