Schumer hopes for bipartisan bailout plan Thursday
WASHINGTON, Sept 25 (Reuters) - New York Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer said lawmakers hope to reach a bipartisan consensus on a proposed $700 billion financial bailout plan in time for a meeting at the White House Thursday afternoon.
"The idea of a rescue plan has gotten a public airing; now it's time for both sides to roll up their sleeves, get together in a room and hash this out once and for all," Schumer said in a statement.
Late Wednesday, President George W. Bush said he would press for an agreement in an emergency meeting with lawmakers Thursday. (Reporting by Karey Wutkowski; editing by John Wallace)
