Senate joins House in overriding farm law veto

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Wednesday joined the House of Representatives in overriding the second veto by President George W. Bush of the new U.S. farm law, a step that enacted a 35-page section dealing with farm-export and food aid programs.

It was the third time a Bush veto has been overturned. Bush has vetoed 11 bills during two terms in office.

"We just had to put that Title III back in. That is the trade title," said Senate Agriculture Committee chairman Tom Harkin, Iowa Democrat. The trade section was omitted by clerical error from the bill vetoed by Bush last month.
