Summit calls for fast release of Zimbabwe result

LUSAKA (Reuters) - Southern African leaders called on Sunday for delayed results from Zimbabwe's election to be released "expeditiously" after a marathon summit to discuss fears of violence because of a post-poll stalemate.

After 13 hours of talks at an emergency summit in Lusaka, that ended around 5.00 a.m. (11:00 p.m. EDT), the summit called on both President Robert Mugabe and the opposition Movement for Democratic Change to accept the outcome of parliamentary and presidential elections.

It called on Mugabe to ensure security during a possible runoff vote against MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
