WELLINGTON, Oct 8 (Reuters) - AMP Capital Investors, New Zealand's biggest fund manager, has appointed First NZ Capital's chief economist Jason Wong as its head of investment strategy, the firm said on Wednesday.

Wong will be responsible for managing asset allocation for AMP Capital's diversified funds.

AMP Capital Investors, a unit of Australia's AMP Ltd (AMP.AX) manages assets worth around NZ$11 billion ($6.8 billion).

On Tuesday, it reported that its diversified funds had lost between 2.2 and 6.5 percent in the three months to Sept. 30, hit by global financial market turbulence.

Wong takes up his role on Nov. 24 and replaces Leo Krippner, who is returning to the Reserve Bank of NZ. ($1=NZ$1.61) (Reporting by Gyles Beckford)
