NEW YORK (Reuters) - JPMorgan Chase (JPM.N) and Washington Mutual (WM.N) have held "very preliminary" talks about a merger, CNBC's Charlie Gasparino said on Friday.

Shares of Washington Mutual jumped more than 12 percent to $15.90 in pre-market trade following the report.
