Ventas first-quarter income rises

NEW YORK, May 8 (Reuters) - Real estate investment trust Ventas Inc. (VTR.N) on Tuesday reported a rise in first quarter net income, helped by acquisitions and growth from existing leases.

Ventas said net income for the quarter ended March 31 rose to $45.1 million, or 42 cents per share, from $29.1 million, or 28 per share, in the same period a year earlier
