DARWIN, June 2 (Reuters) - Further major expansions of the Pluto gas project are likely, Woodside Petroleum Ltd's (WPL.AX) Chief Executive Don Voelte said on Tuesday.

Voelte was speaking to reporters on the side of an energy conference.

Earlier Voelte said construction of the A$12 billion ($9.7 billion) Pluto gas project off Australia's west coast was about 65 percent complete at the end of May.

First liquefied natural gas production from Pluto is expected in late 2010. (Reporting by James Regan)
