BJ's April same-store sales surge

NEW YORK, May 8 (Reuters) - BJ's Wholesale Club Inc (BJ.N) said on Thursday that April sales at stores open at least a year surged 17.8 percent, helped by strong gasoline demand.

The No. 3 U.S. warehouse club operator said total sales for the month rose 20.4 percent to $744.5 million.

Analysts, on average, had expected BJ's to post April same-store sales growth of 10.5 percent, according to Reuters Estimates. (Reporting by Justin Grant, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
