MELBOURNE, Jan 7 (Reuters) - Australian home electronics retailer JB Hi-Fi Ltd (JBH.AX) said on Wednesday sales over the Christmas period were above expectations and beat those of a year earlier.

"We were strong across the board," Chief Executive Richard Uechtritz told Reuters. "It was certainly well and truly above last year."

When asked if the company would meet its forecast of a 28 percent increase in sales for the year, he added "we are certainly heading that way at the moment." (Reporting by Simone Giuliani)
