Teva gets tentative FDA nod for generic Aricept

LOS ANGELES, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (TEVA.O) said on Monday that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted tentative approval to a generic version of Eisai Co Ltd's (4523.T) Alzheimer's drug Aricept.

The branded product, which is co-marketed with Pfizer Inc. (PFE.N), had annual sales of about $1.6 billion in the United States for the year ended Sept. 30, 2007, Teva said in a statement.

Teva patent litigation concerning the product is ongoing in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
