Wendy's says strategic review in final stages

NEW YORK, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Hamburger chain Wendy's International Inc (WEN.N) said on Monday that a special committee of its board of directors, which is reviewing strategic options for the company, believes the review is in the final stages.

"The review process being undertaken by the special committee has taken longer than anticipated, primarily due to the continuing turmoil in the financial markets," said James Pickett, chairman of the board.

"However the special committee is working diligently to conclude its review of strategic options and believes that the process is in the final stages," he added.

The company said there is no assurance that the process will result in any changes to its current plans. (Reporting by Martinne Geller, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
