LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - 20th Century Fox has acquired the rights to Electronic Arts' "Spore" video game to create a computer-generated animated feature.

Chris Wedge, who directed "Ice Age" and "Robots" for the studio, is attached to the project.

Designed by Will Wright, "Spore" allows gamers to create creatures beginning from a cellular level and taking them through various stages of evolution all the way up to galactic colonization. The created beings then have the opportunity to interact with life created by other gamers.

Wedge hasn't directed a movie since 2005's "Robots," which grossed $128.2 million. He's also attached to direct "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," which is set up at Warner Bros.
