EU approves CommScope's purchase of Andrew
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - CommScope Inc (CTV.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) won permission from the European Commission on Tuesday to buy rival communications equipment maker Andrew Corp ANDW.O for about $2.6 billion.
The Commission said in a statement it had found that "the overlaps would be minimal. CommScope has very limited presence in Europe".
CommScope aims to cut manufacturing costs and strengthen positioning with service providers, the companies said when they announced the deal in June.
Executives said the combination would help trim material costs for making coaxial cable used by cable television and high-speed Internet services.
Andrew focuses on wireless technology and CommScope on wireline, the companies said.
