SEOUL (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS) said on Wednesday the company was not interested in German chip maker Infineon Technologies AG (IFXGn.DE), denying speculation that spread in European markets overnight.

Rumors that Samsung and Intel Corp (INTC.O) could be interested in Infineon boosted Infineon's shares on Tuesday. Infineon's memory chip unit Qimonda QI.N makes losses.

"We are not interested," said James Chung, a Samsung spokesman. "The Rumors are groundless."

Samsung is the world No.1 memory chip maker.
