ATHENS (Reuters) - A new Greek Web site promises to help Athenians find a match made in heaven.

Web site www.parkaro.gr can't help singletons on the hunt for love, but people seeking parking spaces in a city choked with traffic are likely to be in luck.

Frustrated driver Yannis Pitsakis decided to play matchmaker by creating the Web site to match drivers to parking spaces offered by private citizens for rent or sale.

"The idea came to me when I was desperately looking for a parking spot in the centre and saw all these empty spaces in private buildings," Pitsakis told Reuters on Wednesday.

His Web site has taken off with some 1,000 hits a day, helping drivers in the ancient city of 5 million people who can spend up to an hour looking for a parking spot.

"It's just unbelievable," Pitsakis said. "It seems everyone wants a parking spot."
