TOKYO, Sept 1 Bank of Japan Governor Masaaki Shirakawa said on Tuesday he had met with Japan's next leader, Yukio Hatoyama, and exchanged views on the economy.
Shirakawa, who also met with senior lawmakers of Hatoyama's Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) at the party headquarters, did not elaborate on what they discussed.
In a historic election on Sunday voters handed control of the government to the DPJ, ending five decades of almost constant rule by the Liberal Democratic Party. [ID:nT356076]
The Democratic Party is thought to respect the central bank's independence more than the Liberal Democratic Party.
But analysts say it could turn more pragmatic and ask the BOJ to support the economy by keeping interest rates low, even though it might not pressure the bank as explicitly as some LDP lawmakers have done in the past. [ID:nT82619] (Reporting by Hideyuki Sano)
