Oct 7 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan reported as of 1200 GMT on Wednesday:

*denotes new or updated items:

* KANDAHAR - Three children were killed when a roadside bomb they were planting went off in Zhari district of southern Kandahar province, district governor Niaz Mohammad Sarhadi said.

Militants gave the children the bomb to avoid being caught themselves, but they did not know how to plant it properly, Sarhadi said.

* GHAZNI - Three Afghan policemen were killed when their military vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Ghazni's Qarabagh district, provincial police chief Khial Baz Sherzai said.

GHAZNI - A rocket fired at a bus by militants killed two civilians and wounded 25 in Ghazni province to the southwest of Kabul, the Afghan interior ministry said on Wednesday.

KABUL - A joint security force killed and detained some suspected militants in Kabul province during an operation to disrupt Taliban members responsible for a series of attacks, NATO said on Wednesday.

AFGHANISTAN - Eight militants were killed in various raids by Afghan and foreign forces, the Afghan defence ministry said.

Reuters could not immediately reach the Taliban for comment on any of the reports.
