LJUBLJANA, May 11 (Reuters) - Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel said on Sunday it appeared the pro-European side had won in Serbia's election and he was "very happy" President Boris Tadic's party would have a greater future role.

"The pro-European side in Serbia won, which was what we were aiming for in the European Union," Rupel, whose country holds the presidency of the EU, told Reuters by telephone. "It seems that Tadic's Democrats will have a more important role, which makes me very happy."

Earlier, the independent monitoring organisation CESID said Tadic's pro-European Union Democratic Party and its allies won "a very convincing victory" in the parliamentary election held on Sunday. (Reporting by Marja Novak, writing by Brunnstrom)
