Four workers die in Turkey power station blast
ISTANBUL, March 20 (Reuters) - Four workers died and five were injured on Thursday by an explosion at a hydroelectric power plant being built in central Turkey, the state-run Anatolian news agency reported.
The cause of the blast in the Anatolian province of Kahramanmaras was not immediately known, provincial governor Mehmet Niyazi Tanilir said in a statement, adding that the power plant was owned by a private company, which he did not name.
Private broadcaster CNN Turk said the four workers were drowned after a water gate at the hydroelectric plant burst.
Safety conditions at work sites in Turkey have recently come under closer scrutiny after a string of fatal accidents at shipyards in Istanbul sparked public anger. (Reporting by Thomas Grove, editing by Tim Pearce)
