NAIROBI, Dec 31 (Reuters) - Kenyan police fired teargas and shots in the air to disperse youths protesting in a Nairobi slum on Monday against a disputed election that handed President Mwai Kibaki a second term in office, witnesses said.

In another day of violence in the east African nation, hundreds of mainly young men chanted the name of defeated opposition leader Raila Odinga before police in riot gear moved in. Trouble was reported elsewhere around Nairobi and west Kenya, which is an opposition stronghold.
