TIMELINE-The trial of Radovan Karadzic
July 21, 2008 - Karadzic is arrested. Serbian officials say he has been living for several years under an assumed name in Belgrade, posing as an alternative healer.
July 31, 2009 - Karadzic makes his first appearance at the ICTY and says he has been kidnapped and fears for his life. He says he wants to handle his own defence rather than use a lawyer.
Oct 21 - Karadzic says he will not attend the start of the case, arguing he has had insufficient time to prepare.
Oct 26 - Karadzic refuses to attend the start of his war crimes trial saying he is not ready.
Oct 27 - Radovan Karadzic led a campaign to make Bosnian Muslims "disappear from the face of the earth" and carve out a mono-ethnic state for Bosnian Serbs, war crimes prosecutors tell the U.N. tribunal. Karadzic boycotts the trial for a second day.
Nov. 2 - Karadzic says he will appear before the Hague war crimes tribunal the next day but only to argue for more time to prepare.
Nov. 3 - Karadzic makes an appearance at a hearing in his case but says he needs another 10 months to prepare his defence, arguing he has been "snowed under" by 1.3 million pages of documents.
