GENEVA, July 6 (Reuters) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on Monday for Myanmar's generals to prepare for credible multi-party national elections next year.

Ban was speaking to a news conference in Geneva after a two-day trip to Myanmar, where he was denied a visit to detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

"It is up to the leadership to set in place the elements necessary for elections to be credible and legitimate," he said. (Reporting by Stephanie Nebehay)
