Northern Chile shaken by 5.6-magnitude quake
SANTIAGO, March 1 (Reuters) - A 5.6-magnitude earthquake shook northern Chile on Saturday about 22 miles (35 km) east-northeast of the city of Iquique, but local authorities said no damage or injuries were reported.
The quake occurred at 4:52 p.m. local time (1952 GMT) and struck at a depth of about 22 miles (35 km), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
"No injuries were reported. In the southern district of Iquique, power was partially cut," Chile's National Emergency Office said on its Web site.
In November, a 7.7-magnitude quake hit Chile's northern region, killing two people and injuring more than 100. (Reporting by Manuel Farias; Writing by Hilary Burke; Editing by Peter Cooney)
