USGS reports 6.5 magnitude quake near Alaska

WASHINGTON, May 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Geological Survey on Thursday reported a 6.5 magnitude earthquake near the tip of the Aleutian island chain, 45 miles (72.42 km) WNW of Adak, Alaska.

The temblor, recorded at 6:33 p.m. Pacific time (0133 GMT), was at a depth of 29.6 miles (47.64 km), the USGS said. No widespread destructive tsunami threat was linked to the quake, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
