Mexico closes main oil ports due to bad weather
MEXICO CITY, March 4 (Reuters) - Mexico closed its three main crude oil exporting ports on Tuesday due to bad weather in the Gulf of Mexico, the government said.
The Gulf ports of Dos Bocas, Cayo Arcas and Coatzacoalcos, which together ship around 80 percent of Mexico's exported oil, all were closed, the transport ministry said in a statement.
The country's fourth oil-exporting port, Salina Cruz on the Pacific coast, was also closed by the afternoon, along with a handful of other commercial ports. Salina Cruz ships small volumes of crude oil to Asia.
Port authorities reported heavy rain and strong winds.
State oil monopoly Pemex said oil shipments should not be significantly disrupted as any tankers held at dock would be rescheduled to leave as soon as the ports reopen.
Pemex, a major supplier of crude to the United States, has suffered repeated disruption to its export schedule in recent weeks and months due to stormy weather shutting ports. (Reporting by Catherine Bremer; Editing by Christian Wiessner)
