Five tourists killed in air crash near Peru's Nazca
"I can confirm there are five French people dead, four women and one man," Angela Soser, an official at AeroIca, told Reuters by phone.
The plane crashed about 500 feet (150 meters) from the Nazca airport, almost immediately after take-off, according to a local fire department official, Sonia Vega.
Vega said the pilot of the plane had been taken to the hospital.
The Nazca lines, about 250 miles (400 km) south of Lima are a top tourist destination and are best viewed from the air. (Reporting by Teresa Cespedes; Writing by Dana Ford; Editing by Hilary Burke)
