Hurricane Carlos weakens off Mexico's Pacific coast
MEXICO CITY, July 12 (Reuters) - Hurricane Carlos weakened to a tropical storm on Sunday off Mexico's Pacific coast and though it could strengthen into a hurricane again it is moving west far out to sea, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
Carlos was located about 1,175 miles (1,895 km) south-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph (110 kph), at 2 p.m. PDT/2100 GMT.
"Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and Carlos could reintensify into a hurricane," the Miami-based center said on Saturday.
Baja California is home to the popular beach resort of Los Cabos but the area is mainly desert and does not have any oil rigs or refineries. (Reporting by Robin Emmott)
