Central Colombia hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake

BOGOTA, May 24 (Reuters) - A shallow earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitude hit central Colombia on Saturday, shaking buildings in the capital, Bogota, witnesses and the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was centered 33 miles (54 km) east-southeast of Bogota at a depth of 2.2 miles (3.5 km), the USGS said. The agency initially reported a magnitude of 5.8. (Reporting by Patrick Markey in Bogota; Editing by Peter Cooney)
