BEIJING, June 8 (Reuters) - Falling boulders struck a cargo train on Sunday in China's southwest Sichuan province, causing the train to derail and killing one railway worker and injuring another, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

The accident led to the closure of the rail line between Dazhou and Chengdu, the provincial capital, Xinhua said, citing an unnamed official in the Chengdu railway administration.

The train driver was hospitalised with serious injuries, according to the official.

The accident happened about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday in Jintang County, more than 80 kilometres (50 miles) northeast of Chengdu and east of the region that was hit by a devastating earthquake on May 12 that was followed by thousands of aftershocks.

The derailment was under investigation, Xinhua said. (Reporting by Ken Wills; Editing by Alex Richardson)
