Singapore confirms first H1N1 flu case

SINGAPORE, May 27 (Reuters) - The Singapore government on Wednesday confirmed the city-state's first H1N1 flu case, a 22-year-old woman who is being quarantined in hospital. State broadcaster Channel NewsAsia said the Singaporean woman arrived from New York on May 26 on a Singapore Airlines flight.

The World Health Organisation said on Tuesday nearly 13,000 people have been confirmed infected with the new H1N1 flu strain worldwide. (Reporting by Singapore Newsroom; Editing by Valerie Lee)
