Russian president hints at missile shield response
L'AQUILA, Italy, July 10 (Reuters) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday U.S. insistence on deploying elements of an anti-missile system in Europe could hamper a bilateral nuclear arms cut deal now being discussed.
Medvedev, speaking at a news conference during a G8 summit in Italy, also referred to an order earlier this year to prepare deployment of missiles in the western enclave of Kaliningrad in answer to any deployment of a missile shield in Europe.
"If we don't manage to agree on the issues, you know the consequences. What I said during my state of the nation address has not been revoked," he said. (Editing by Ralph Boulton)
