July 3 (Reuters) - Leaders from the Group of Eight rich countries meet next week at the hilltop Windsor Hotel, overlooking the lake and hot spring resort of Toyako, on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido.

Following is a schedule for the July 7-9 G8 summit and some surrounding events (all times GMT):

SATURDAY, JULY 5

0400 -- Peace Walk by activists, including anti-G8 protesters in Sapporo, Hokkaido.

SUNDAY, July 6

-- Non-government organisations hold "People's Summit" in Sapporo, Hokkaido (to July 8).

0630 -- U.S.-Japan leaders bilateral meeting.

1000 -- U.S.-Japan leaders dinner.

MONDAY, JULY 7

First day of G8 summit meeting in Toyako, northern Japan, to focus on Africa development issues in expanded meeting with leaders of seven African countries.

0230 -- U.S.-Russia leaders bilateral meeting.

0330 -- G8 leaders Africa outreach working lunch with leaders of Algeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and the chairman of the African Union Commission.

0530 -- G8 leaders working session with Africa outreach group.

1035 -- G8 social dinner.

TUESDAY, JULY 8

Day two of G8 summit meeting, in Toyako, northern Japan, focus expected to be on food and oil prices, and climate change.

0000 -- U.S.-Germany leaders bilateral meeting.

0100 -- G8 leaders morning working session.

0400 -- G8 leaders working lunch.

0600 -- G8 leaders afternoon working session.

1000 -- G8 leaders working dinner.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9

2240 (Tues) -- U.S.-India leaders bilateral meeting.

2330 (Tues) -- G8 working session with leaders of Brazil, China, India, Mexico, South Africa.

0100 -- Major economies meeting with G8 leaders plus Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa, South Korea.

0330 -- G8 working lunch with participants from major economies meeting.

0545 -- U.S.-China leaders bilateral meeting.

-- Media conference by G8 chairman, Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda. 0645 -- U.S.-South Korea leaders bilateral meeting.
