TOYAKO, Japan, July 8 (Reuters) - The Group of Eight leaders are likely to include a "shared vision" to halve global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 in a statement to be issued later on Tuesday, a source briefed on negotiators' talks said.

The European Union and Japan have been pressing for a G8 statement that goes beyond a summit pledge last year to "seriously consider" a goal of halving global carbon emissions by mid-century and refers to the need for interim targets as well.

The source, speaking before the leaders met to discuss a final document, also said that the G8 would urge big emerging economies to share that same vision. (Reporting by Linda Sieg, Editing by Sonya Hepinstall)
