Bush to make statement on Georgia - White House

WASHINGTON, Aug 13 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush spoke with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and will make a statement later on Wednesday, the White House said.

"The president wants to make a statement," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said. There were no immediate details of what time Bush will make the statement or of his conversation with Saakashvili.

Georgia and Russia were engaged in heavy fighting during the past week over the breakaway region of South Ossetia. (Reporting by Tabassum Zakaria; Editing by Kristin Roberts)
