More than 110 missiles fired at Libya-US official

WASHINGTON, March 19 (Reuters) - U.S. and British ships and submarines fired more than 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles at Libyan targets to take out their air defenses, a senior U.S. military official said on Saturday.

Vice Admiral Bill Gortney, director of the U.S. military’s Joint Staff, said no U.S. aircraft were flying over Libya at this time and no U.S. forces were on the ground. (Reporting by Missy Ryan and Phil Stewart)
