Got the world's best dad? Test him out on TV
LOS ANGELES (Reuters Life!) - For all those kids who ever bragged of having the world's best father, NBC will soon launch a new show to put such claims to the test on prime-time television -- "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad."
The eight-part series, announced by NBC on Wednesday, is the latest offering from reality TV guru Mark Burnett, the man behind the CBS castaway contest "Survivor," Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" and the new Fox quiz hit "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?"
Burnett is teaming up on the "Dad" project with TV production house Reveille, whose credits include NBC's weight-loss competition "The Biggest Loser" and whose founder, Ben Silverman, is now co-chairman of NBC Entertainment.
The new show, slated for a mid-season debut, will feature several fathers and their families competing for cash and other prizes in a series of stunt-driven challenges.
The format "combines the family fun and kid empowerment of 'Fifth Grader' with the universally relatable concept of bragging that your dad is the best," Burnett said in a statement issued by NBC.
NBC, a unit of General Electric Co., is seeking to battle its way back from fourth place in the network ratings race as the 2007-08 U.S. television season officially opens this week.
