BMO CAPITAL MARKETS
The unit of Bank of Montreal (BMO.TO) has hired Alan Laws, most recently a senior research analyst at Merrill Lynch in Denver, as a senior equity analyst to the firm's North American Energy group. It also named Ambrish Srivastava as a senior equity analyst in the firm's technology team. Srivastava had left BMO in 2007 to work at Criterion Capital Management as a senior analyst.
RBC CAPITAL MARKETS
The corporate and investment banking arm of Royal Bank of Canada (RY.TO) named James Caldwell, most recently global head of Banc of America's aerospace, defense and transportation group, as managing director in charge of its new aerospace and defense group.
DUFF & PHELPS
The financial advisory firm named Michael Cochrane, who previously worked at firms including Oppenheimer & Co, Goldman Sachs Group Inc and Lehman Brothers, as leader of its mergers and acquisitions advisory practice.
AVIVA INVESTORS
The asset manager and affiliate of Aviva Plc (AV.L) named Charles Preseau as chief financial officer of its North American unit, reporting to Greg Boal, Aviva Investors North America's chief executive. Preseau, who will lead all finance and operations functions, was previously chief financial officer and treasurer at Promark Global Advisors (formerly General Motors Asset Management).
JEFFERIES & CO (JEF.N)
The investment bank has hired Lisa Pendergast, most recently a managing director in the fixed-income strategies group at RBS Greenwich Capital, as a managing director in its fixed income division's MBS/ABS/CMBS Group.
KEEFE, BRUYETTE & WOODS INC
The investment bank, which is a wholly-owned unit of KBW Inc (KBW.N), said it would create a specialized trading team for the convertible and preferred securities marketplace and appointed Robert Ryon, Brian Lovit and three others to staff this team.
Ryon joins the bank as senior vice president and leader of the convertible team from Ramius LLC, while Lovit joins as a senior convertible trader from Wachovia Securities.
