NEW YORK, July 26 Marathon Petroleum Corp is
beginning to ship Bakken crude by rail to refineries in the
U.S. Midwest, Gary Heminger, chief executive of the new
company, told Reuters on Tuesday.
Heminger said the company did not see the move as a
long-term supply solution as it expected pipelines to be built
to carry the crude.
Heminger did not specify to which refineries the light,
sweet North Dakota crude would be railed. He said the company's
206,000-barrels-per-day refinery in Robinson, Illinois was well
positioned logistically to receive crude from different
sources. The company's 78,000-bpd Canton, Ohio refinery runs a
heavier to medium slate but can run Bakken crude.
The company also has a 226,000-bpd refinery in Catletsburg,
