UK Stocks -- Factors to watch on July 28

LONDON, July 28 (Reuters) - Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE index is seen opening flat to lower on Wednesday, consolidating after gains in the previous two sessions, with a fall in U.S. consumer confidence denting investor sentiment.
The UK blue chip index looks set to open down 10 points, or 0.2 percent, to up 3 points, or 0.1 percent, according to financial bookmakers, after it closed up 14.55 points, or 0.3 percent at 5,365.67 on Tuesday, its highest closing level since May 13.
The S&P .SPX snapped a three-day winning streak on Tuesday after mixed earnings reports and the dispiriting consumer confidence data, but analysts said U.S. stocks were taking a breather and the rally could pick back up.
The governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, appears before members of parliament at the Treasury Select Committee to discuss the outlook for the British economy and future regulation of financial institutions at 0845 GMT.
A leading think-tank said on Wednesday that Britain's economic recovery will be slower than the government believes and consumer spending will not recover to its pre-recession peak until 2015. [ID:nLDE66Q0PY]
On the other side of the Atlantic, durable goods orders will be released at 1230 GMT, and the Federal Reserve's Beige Book will be published at 1800 GMT.
Ex-dividend factors will take 4.96 points off the UK blue chip index on Wednesday, with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK.L), Investec (INVP.L) and Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE.L) all losing their payout attractions.
