MEXICO CITY, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Mexico's peso tumbled by the most in five months on Friday, tracking a slump on Wall Street as hopes faded that a deal would soon be reached to avert the "fiscal cliff."

The peso shed 1.5 percent to 12.9530 per dollar, hitting its weakest level since early December and heading for its worst one-day percentage loss since late July.
