US gold ends up 1.3 pct as dollar drops vs euro

 NEW YORK, Nov 2 (Reuters) - U.S. gold futures briefly rose to a
one-week high above $1,060 an ounce on Monday, gaining more than 1 percent
as the dollar dropped against the euro in highly choppy trade.

 GOLD
 * December gold GCZ9 settles up $13.60, or 1.3 percent, at $1,054 an
ounce on the COMEX division of NYMEX.
 * Ranged from $1,042.20 to $1,063.40 -- highest since Oct. 23. December
scaled a record high $1,072 on Oct. 14.
 * Gold supported by weak dollar after a flurry of optimistic U.S.
manufacturing activity and home sales reports.
 * Dollar slid as much as 1 pct versus the euro based on economic
optimism, boosting gold and equities.
 * Gold closes off lows as euro cuts gains as U.S. stocks turn
negative.
 * Buying sentiment improved after Barrick says may complete buyback of
its hedgebook ahead of plan. [ID:nL2208871]
 * Technical analysts pegged gold's near-term support at $1,025 to
$1,026.
 * COMEX net long noncommercial, or speculative, positions eased in the
week up to Oct. 27 - CFTC data.
 * Metal ignores lagging investment demand. SPDR Gold Trust posted
outflow of nearly 1 tonne as of Oct. 30.
 * Gold BUGS index .HUI turns lower after rising 4 percent. The gold
mining stocks index was clobbered on Friday.
 * Gold has recently moved in tandem with equities. Bullion's unusual
link to stocks driven by uncertainties.
 * COMEX estimated midday volume at a busy 120,108 lots.
 * Crude oil up around $1 to almost $78 a barrel, supporting gold.
 * Gold-to-oil ratio at 13.57, up from 13.53 from the previous session.
 * Spot gold XAU= at $1,055.25 an ounce at 2:17 p.m. EST (1917 GMT),
against $1,044.40 late in New York in the previous session.
 * London's afternoon gold fix XAUFIX= at $1,062.
 SILVER
 * December silver SIZ9 ends up 18.50 cents, or 1.1 percent, at $16.44
an ounce, rising with gold.
 * Ranged from $16.275 to $16.735.
 * COMEX estimated midday volume at 31,786 lots.
 * Spot silver XAG= was at $16.37 versus $16.27 in the previous
session in New York.
 * London silver fix XAGFIX= at $16.58.
 PLATINUM
 * January platinum PLF0 finishes up $11.80 at $1,338.10 an ounce on
broad-based economic optimism.
 * Spot platinum XPT= was at $1,330, compared with late previous
session quote of $1,322.50 in New York.
 PALLADIUM
 * December palladium PAZ9 closes up $3.10 at $326.35 on ounce,
tracking platinum.
 * Spot palladium XPD= was at $320.50, compared with the previous
session's close at $318.50.
