Gold Fields suspends some operations at SAfrica mine

JOHANNESBURG, May 1 (Reuters) - Gold Fields Ltd. (GFIJ.J) said on Thursday it had suspended some operations at its South Deep mine in South Africa after an accident that killed nine contract workers.

Gold Fields spokesman Andrew Davidson said the accident occurred at a level about 3,000 metres below the surface of the mine in Carletonville outside Johannesburg and that some mining operations had been stopped as a result. (Reporting by Paul Simao)
