SANTIAGO, Oct 8 (Reuters) - The Chilean peso CHILJCLP=CL strengthened to below 500 pesos per dollar on Monday for the first time since June 1999.
The peso, which has been gaining against the dollar due to a widening gap between Chilean and U.S. interest rates, was trading at 499.60/499.90 compared with Friday's close of 502.50/502.80.
