(Reuters) - The New York Times Co shareholder Harbert Management and its hedge-fund unit Harbinger Capital Partners boosted their stakes in the media company's Class A stock, according to a regulatory filing.

Harbert now owns 11.82 percent of New York Times, which gives it shared voting power over 16.9 million shares. It had earlier reported a 9.96 percent stake in the company.

Harbinger Capital, which is seeking four board seats, is pushing the newspaper group to move aggressively into digital media.
