(Recasts; adds details, share movement)
Sept 4 (Reuters) - Network equipment maker ADC Telecommunications Inc (ADCT.O) posted quarterly results that edged past Wall Street targets as sales at its network solutions segment surged, but the company cut its 2008 earnings outlook.
The broadband data access and infrastructure equipment maker posted a profit of $15.1 million, or 13 cents a share, for the third quarter ended Aug. 1, compared with $16.6 million, or 14 cents a share, a year earlier.
Earnings from continuing operations stood at 12 cents a share. The latest quarter included certain expenses totaling 15 cents a share, the company said.
Analysts on average expected ADC to earn 26 cents a share, before special items, according to Reuters Estimates.
Net sales rose about 13 percent to $390.2 million, beating analysts' average estimate of $387.1 million. Sales at its network solutions segment jumped 81 percent to $43.9 million.
The company said it expects fourth-quarter sales to be lower sequentially as customers' capital spending nears the end of the calendar year.
ADC now sees full year earnings from continuing operations of between 10 cents and 18 cents a share, including certain charges, down from its prior view of 18 cents to 26 cents.
It reaffirmed its sales forecast of $1.50 billion to $1.52 billion.
Shares of ADC were up 5 percent at $9.66 in trading after the bell. They closed down about 5 percent at $9.17 Thursday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Deepti Govind in Bangalore; Editing by Deepak Kannan)
