KIEV, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Ukraine will pay for technical gas that is needed to pump Russian gas to Europe once a 2009 supply and transit deal is signed with Gazprom (GAZP.MM), Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said on Monday.

"We can pay for it (gas) when contracts about a gas price and transit price are signed," she said in a statement on the government's Web site, www.kmu.gov.ua.

In the several days at the start of January when Russia was supplying Europe with gas, but not Ukraine, Kiev said it was taking some of it to keep the pipeline system operational. Russia accused Ukraine of stealing the gas.
