PARIS, Sept 25 (Reuters) - BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA), France's biggest listed bank, said on Thursday that it remained well-placed for growth despite recent market turmoil.
"We have strong and diversified revenue streams and good cost control," Chief Executive Baudouin Prot told a Cheuvreux conference.
Slides on the bank's website also stated that BNP Paribas was well positioned despite a deteriorating credit environment.
BNP Paribas has emerged from the current credit crisis in stronger shape than many of its rivals, leading to speculation that it could be on the lookout for acquisitions.
Prot said the bank's priority was on organic growth and added he that he had no desire to "feed the rumour mill".
He reiterated that BNP Paribas had no plans to sell its U.S. retail bank division, BancWest.
"I believe we will continue to be in challenging times. The financial crisis is not over," he told the conference.
BNP Paribas shares were up 0.3 percent in early morning trade, slightly outperforming a 0.2 percent fall in the DJ Stoxx European bank index .SX7P.
The stock has fallen around 12 percent since the start of the year, less than a 34 percent fall in the European bank sector. (Reporting by Sudip Kar-Gupta; Editing by Quentin Bryar)
